During the 1940s Matisse produced a series of Papiers Découpé (paper cut-outs) using a technique he termed "painting with scissors".Using painted gouache colour, forms and geometry in this medium, produced these paper collage forms. In this print, these black forms are seen to represent coral or a nature form.
